The faceting was widespread, but the overlying load was variable due to spatial variability in the terrain and loading of the storm slab.

During the tour today we saw different potential avalanche problems. The problem we saw which was most widespread was a faceted layer at the bottom of the snowpack. This could be possible to trigger with large additional load when there is a thinner snowpack. Possible size 2 can be expected. We also saw problems such as a new storm slab and a melt freeze crust on top of facets but these were isolated problems from our observations.

There are some weak layers below the storm slab from yesterday as well as below the melt freeze crust but these seem to be very isolated from our observations.

I performed several little block tests and where the snow pack was thick >1m I was unable to activate any movement. When I moved to a thinner snow pack ~60cm then the block collapsed on the bottom layer of facets which was ~1cm thick. In this snow pack we saw an overlying storm slab at the top. This layer was rounded grains .5cm with 1F hardness ~5cm thick. This was on top of a layer composed of new snow that was decomposing. We expect this can settle in the next days. In the snowpack we saw the melt freeze crust but this was not a problem without a lot of faceting below. The facets on the bottom are large (2mm) and soft (fist) which is where we can expect a problem
